This documentary style painting was done after a trip to Jotunheimen National Park, Norway. It is the view from the summit of Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway. This area has Europe’s highest concentration of mountains higher than 2000m and from the top, as far as the eye can see, are rows of jagged peaks and snow-capped summits. The light was intensely bright and clear and, whilst this view was painted in the studio, it is closely based on the real scene. It was assembled from a collage of individual photos, with the lower region of the painting echoing the contour of the valleys.
